Balancing the State Budget
The problem with the budgetary crisis in Illinois is our tax dollars are not being invested wisely. We
must straighten out our priorities in order to maintain a balanced budget and we must discuss the budget
more transparently with the citizenry. We are currently facing a major issue, if politicians cannot
eliminate or reduce the ever-growing deficit, then government workers will be laid off and social services
will be hacked away. Nobody likes to raise taxes or cut government services. However, we cannot keep
cutting taxes and offering breaks if we are to support public education, government operated mass transit,
etc. There are some solutions to this problem which include:
- Relieving property taxes by passing HB 750 which was designed for education funding reform
- Enforcing taxation by appointing state-employed investigators to collect more revenue
- Closing corporate loopholes and eliminating the Illinois Sports Facility Authority which spends public money on sports stadiums
