Illinois has just recently seen the largest deployment of National Guard
troops since World War II. More than 2,700 unit members from throughout the state have headed overseas. I
will fight to bring National Guard troops home immediately. Their efforts are needed here during tragic
disasters and events like Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath and the I-35W bridge collapse in Minnesota. If the
Mississippi River flooded Rock Island, or God forbid, a plane crashed into a building in the Loop, who would
Illinoisans turn to for assistance? It is imperative that the Illinois National Guard be redeployed back to
the states without delay.
